Our Covenant

The Shepherd's Promise™

A Covenant Between Shepherd and Guardian

What Is The Shepherd's Promise™?

When you receive one of our dogs, it is yours. Fully, truly, for the rest of its life. You are not renting a companion or borrowing one on approval. You are its Guardian, and it is your family.

The Shepherd's Promise is the single ring drawn around that ownership — and it exists for one reason only: to protect the dog. Not to control you. Not to keep a string on what is rightfully yours. Only to make sure that the heart and soul we poured into this dog through its earliest months is never undone by a careless hand down the road.

Here is the whole of it.

I

You own your dog — with one promise in return.

A dog placed under this covenant may never be sold, traded, or quietly handed off to a stranger. That's not a limit on your love; it's a wall against the thing we built this whole system to prevent — a good dog passed along, again and again, until it lands somewhere that doesn't understand it.

II

If you ever cannot keep your dog, it comes home.

Life changes — we know that, and there is no shame in it. If the day ever comes that you can't keep your companion, the dog returns to us. Always. No questions, no judgment. There is a place for it here for as long as it lives. No dog from this line is ever surrendered to a shelter, abandoned, or left to an uncertain fate.

III

If you find the dog a new home yourself, it comes through us.

A friend, a family member you trust completely — that's a gift, and we honor it. We only ask that the new home come through us, so we can place them under the same covenant. That way the protection follows the dog wherever it goes. The promise travels with the life it guards.

IV

We walk with you — periodic check-ins, for the dog's sake.

By becoming a Guardian, you welcome our occasional wellbeing check-ins — so we can see the dog is thriving, and step in to help if it ever isn't. Not oversight. Shepherding.

V

Donations are non-refundable.

Every placement is made by donation, and those donations are non-refundable. They do not buy a dog — there is no price on a life. They fund the raising, the care, and the promise to shepherd every dog for as long as it lives. Why the donation is what it is →

Why we do this

We raise our dogs the way we believe every creature of God deserves to be raised — by hand, imprinted on people, deeply tempered to understand us. A dog shaped by love is easier to train, and far more likely to stay home for life: far less likely to be the one who ends up rehomed, given away, dropped at a shelter — or worse, put down because fear turned into a bite. A dog who understands people rarely becomes a dog people give up on.

This is our mission: to see every dog cared for, for life, no matter the circumstances. The Shepherd's Promise is how we keep that vow — not by holding the leash, but by holding the door open forever, so no dog we raise is ever truly without a Guardian.

A not-for-profit mission. Mini-Sheps™ isn’t run for profit — every donation goes back into the raising and lifelong care of these dogs.
"I am the good shepherd... and I lay down My life for the sheep."
— John 10:11 (NKJV)
